Tailored Jacket Inspired by Depression in Art
As part of my A-Level Fashion and Textiles I designed and made a tailored jacket inspired by Frida Kahlo’s painting; The Two Fridas and Pyer Moss’s Fall 2016 collection, both of which were inspired by the artists’ lived experience of depression. I took inspiration from Kahlo’s presentation of mental pain as physical pain by using the imagery of the circulatory system and the sleeve being held together only by the blood vessels, and from Pyer Moss’s collection through the use of text by having quotes from his collection on both the lining using batik dying, lino printing and freehand embroidery, and as a representation of the blood vessels on the outside of the jacket in blue and red.
