Edwardian Straight Jacket Costume
Inspired by the opera Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini, I combined an Edwardian dress and a straight jacket to symbolise that in the opera Cio-Cio San is trapped by the identity she chose; by calling herself American she is disowned by her family in Japan, and yet she is still not wanted by the American husband she stays loyal to. This piece was purely design but I also made a 1/3 scale version for proof of concept.
