A Two Piece Beaded Dress Inspired by Catholic Imagery in Art

Designed and made for A-Level textiles, this dress was inspired by Givenchy’s spring 2013 collection and Dolce and Gabbana’s fall 2013 collection, both of which were inspired by imagery within the Roman Catholic Church. The Givenchy collection was a minimalist interpretation of traditional garments within the church made using metals and lightweight fabrics which inspired my metal collars, neck ruffle and chiffon overdress. The D&G collection on the other hand, was maximalist and inspired by byzantine cathedrals, which inspired my beaded mosaics, gold colours, handmade thermoplastic jewels and motif of Jesus on the skirt which I painted and was copied from the dome of the Cathedral of Montreal.
