Corset Inspired by Gender in Art
For my A-Level Fashion and Textiles I designed and made a unisex corset inspired by Sky Cubacub’s Rebirth Garments and J W Anderson’s fall 2013 collection. Initially the intention was to make a male corset, turning a traditionally female garment into a male one, but later I realised it would fit women as well; this and the beige colour were the influence of J W Anderson. The use of PVC, the spray painted pattern on the front right panel and the holes in the form were inspired by several striking pieces made by rebirth garments. The colours pink and blue were used because they are the colours traditionally associated with male and female genders.
