Marionette Costume for Theatricality Study

Final piece for my A-Level research project studying the concept of theatricality. My idea was to make a marionette costume for a person as puppetry is inherently theatrical. I found a dress similar to this while researching Parisian opera from the 1880s. I chose to make a mask from thermoplastic to represent the porcelain masks traditionally used in Chinese opera and I mirrored this in the cuffs that attached the arms to the X-frame and in a contemporary stomacher, all of which resembled bones in a reference for my 4:48 Psychosis Bone Dress which was also smaller project within this module.
